Round 2, day 3
The two finalists of the open tournament will qualify for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2022, while the top three players in the women’s competition will receive places in the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament. The top seed in the open section is world champion Magnus Carlsen, and the top seed in the women’s tournament is Aleksandra Goryachkina.
All games consist of two classic games and, in the event of a tie, a playoff that takes place on the third day. The tiebreak consists of two 25 + 10 rapid games, followed if necessary by two 10 + 10 “slow blitz games”, then two 5 + 3 blitz games and finally one game of Armageddon in which White has 4 5 minutes before Black. however, a tie counts as a win for Black.
FIDE provides two live commentary feeds, one for the open event and one for the women’s event. Rounds begin at 2:00 p.m. EDT (12:00 p.m. UT, 8:00 a.m. ET).
