(CBS Local Sports) – Athletes unlimited lacrosse is the new professional women’s lacrosse league that aired on CBS Sports Network for the past few weeks and features some of the world’s most talented female lacrosse players, including goalkeeper Amber Hill. Hill has one of the most inspiring stories of any player in the league. She is a top goalkeeper, mother, college coach at Hilbert College in New York, and a Native American athlete.

CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith recently caught up with Hill to talk about Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse, what it was like to play professionally on national television, her daughter’s love for looseness, and what it means to be the Native American community at its greatest To represent the stage.

“It was just amazing. Having competed in a lot of world championships, I can’t imagine how much talent is concentrated here, ”said Hill. “Playing with Team USA past and current players … and the amount of talent with every single player in every single game is amazing. That makes the game a lot more fun. “

“It was difficult being apart from my family, but there is so much support here,” said Hill. “It was a really good and empowering time. It’s nice to be able to play at such a high level and not be the only one with this background as a mom. “

Hill grew up on the Tuscarora Reservation in Lewiston, New York, and is honored to represent the Haudenosaunee Confederation on this platform. She loves that her story shows people how complex it is to be a professional athlete in 2021.

“My daughter will be here on Friday and stay with us the rest of the time,” said Hill. “She is at an age where she will remember all of this and we talked about vlogging her experience. It’s surreal to be honest. I’m not getting any younger and goalkeepers age in dog years, so this could be my last try. “

The goalkeeper is grateful for the support she has received from her players and colleagues at Hilbert College during this time. Hill will be in action on the CBS Sports Network Friday night at 5:00 p.m. EST / PST. She hopes this league will inspire the next generation of lacrosse players.

“I’ve told everyone that I think everyone at Athletes Unlimited has really managed to be athlete-focused and athletic,” said Hill. “This league will be the one that will be sustainable. As a professional athlete with extremely limited options after graduation, it is so extremely important to have this. It means so much to be a part of this first class and spread the word that is possible. We want it to be sustainable for future generations. I really cannot put this experience into words. “
