Explaining why he no longer likes playing with Valorant pros, Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek claimed it “drives him crazy” because he knows he is “no longer as good” as them.
In his heyday, Shroud was one of the best CS: GO players in the world. He didn’t win a major. However, it has been touted as one of the most touted naturally gifted players on the competitive scene, and the fans loved him for it.
A lot has changed since then. Shroud still has insane skills. However, instead of spending hours practicing a game, it has cemented its place as one of the most popular variety streamers on the internet.
That didn’t stop him from playing Valorant professionally. He put together a team and participated in the VCT qualifications. But unfortunately they didn’t make it as far as he and his fans had hoped.
It didn’t stop him from playing the game. In fact, he loves it as much as ever. But he admitted that he no longer likes playing it with professionals and he told fans why; because he thinks he has lost that lead.
“I get so mad when I play with professional players because in my head I think, man, I’m as good as them,” he said. But when he then plays with them, he claims that it doesn’t take him long to realize that it isn’t.
“It pisses me off because I know I want to be this good, but I also know that I never will be unless you play the game that much on a professional team. It’s such a damn annoying thing.
“You just can’t do it if you don’t play in this environment.”
Shroud is still insanely good compared to the average gamer. However, compared to professionals who invest hours after hours to keep their skills up to date, he believes he’s lost his lead, as much as he hates to admit it.
It’s unlikely we’ll ever see him compete on the professional scene again. But the good news is that his Twitch channel is as popular as ever thanks to the launch of New World, which he is absolutely kicking off.
