McDONALD – Mary Jane “Janie” Lewis, 80, peacefully entered eternal life on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 8:48 pm at Continuing Healthcare at the Ridge.

She was born in Youngstown on February 26, 1941, to the late George D. and Mary Eleanor McCloud Cox, and lived in the area her entire life.

Mary Jane graduated from McDonald High School in 1959, where she excelled in basketball, and graduated from Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She was a nurse at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 33 years before retiring.

She was active with the McDonald Football Boosters. Janie enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren at all of their sporting events at McDonald’s. You could count on Janie to cook turkeys for Thanksgiving in kindergarten, and gallons of sauce and meatballs for band booster franchises. Janie loved traveling with family and friends, playing the piano, playing board games and playing cards.

Mary Jane was married to Raymond E. Lewis on September 13, 1963; They were married for almost 57 years before he died on July 18, 2020.

Together they shared the love of two children, John (Jill) Lewis of McDonald and Terri (Matt) Hull of Warrenton, Virginia; a sister of Marsha Crawford of Niles; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Hull and Morgan and Brooke Lewis.

In addition to her parents and husband Ray, Mary Jane was preceded in death by a brother, George D. “Sammy” Cox Jr.

A loving cremation takes place.

A festival of life for family and friends will take place on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Amen Corner, 20 W. Main St., Girard, OH 44420.

The family requests that commemorative donations be made in the form of donations on Janie’s behalf to the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, 945 Boardman Canfield Road, Unit 12, Boardman, OH 44512.
