Obituary for MILDRED SPECTOR (1935-2022) – Silver Spring, DC

Mildred Spector “Milly”
Mildred “Milly” Spector of Silver Spring, Maryland, died on February 17, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home in Riderwood Village. She was 86 years old. Milly was born on November 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York to Misha and Manya Savel. She spoke Yiddish and English and was the eldest of three children. Milly was very intelligent, generous, open and deeply admired by everyone who knew her. At the age of 44, she studied gerontology and administration at the University of Maryland, College Park. Milly used her education as a basis to start her own business, Senior Solutions, in 1991. Milly spent decades owning Senior Solutions, managing property and caring for the sick and/or vulnerable elderly. Milly was a proud member of the Association for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). In Riderwood, where she has called home for more than 20 years, Milly loved socializing with her many friends and playing board games, and taught Yiddish for several years. Milly is survived by three children, Jordan Spector, Lori Crum and Steven Spector; her four grandchildren, Hillary and Jesse Crum, and Chelsea and Candice Spector. Milly was preceded in death by her sister Marilyn, brother Harvey, husband Lewis Grotke and first husband Jerry Spector. Milly was buried with her relatives on Sunday February 20 at her family plot in Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. In memory of Milly and in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to one of the following charities Milly was passionate about: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation; PFLAG at; and Planned Parenthood
