Reedy signs MLS NEXT Pro contract with Real Monarchs

HERRIMAN, Utah- Former Penn State football midfielder Pierre Reedy signed a MLS NEXT Pro pro contract with Real Monarchs ahead of the start of the MLS NEXT Pro season on Friday, pending league approval.

After going undrafted in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, Reedy was invited to Real Salt Lake’s preseason camp as a trialist. There he impressed the club in the two-month preseason, even starting a preseason game against Minnesota United and playing substitute minutes in two more games to earn a contract.

“Pierre came into preseason with Real Salt Lake and never failed to impress our technical staff. His approach to his craft, his character at it and his drive to succeed are a role model for players of all ages in our organization. We look forward to seeing his continued development with the Monarchs,” said Tony Beltran, Real Salt Lake assistant general manager official press release of the association.

In six seasons with the Nittany Lions, Reedy played in 69 career games from 64 starts. He totaled nine goals and 14 assists for 32 total points. On the field, Reedy helped Penn State become the elusive “double” of the Big Ten in 2021 for the first time in program history. He earned two All-Big Ten honors and was a 2020-21 third-team All-American, in addition to four other All-America awards during his career.

“Pierre has earned this opportunity through his tireless hard work and dedication – we couldn’t be happier for him,” the head coach said Jeff Cook. “I am confident that he will make the most of this opportunity with Real Salt Lake and the Monarchs. This is a great match between an outstanding club and a player with a very bright future. I am very excited to follow his coaching career as a professional soccer player!”

A native of Kutztown, Pennsylvania, he was a three-time team captain for Penn State and a respected leader. While at Penn State, he earned two degrees (Bachelor, Security and Risk Analysis; Master, Corporate Finance). Reedy has been named an Academic All-Big Ten five times and has been a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar twice. He was also the recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2021.

Real Monarchs will compete in MLS NEXT Pro in the 2022 season, with a schedule to be released at a later date.
