FIDE lands a wild reply to the post “Gaethje plays checkers while Charles played chess”.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has come up with a perfect response to a Twitter user who compared the UFC 274 lightweight fight between Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje to chess and checkers. In the main event of UFC 274, Gaethje faced Oliveira as the latter emerged victorious with a first-round submission win. The fight was initially planned as a lightweight championship match but the title was stripped from champion Oliveira after the Brazilian missed the weight.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user shared the video of the fight between Oliveira and Gaethje, saying: “Gaethje is a good fighter, but this man was playing checkers while Charles was playing chess.” FIDE replied to the user in a savage manner and went to their official Twitter name and said “This is not chess”. In the highly anticipated main event, Gaethje landed some perfect shots against Oliveira before the Brazilian choked Gaethje in the first round.

Charles Oliveira will fight for the title in his next fight

With the win, Oliveira increased his winning tally in UFC matches to a total of 21, while losing eight more times. During the post-fight press conference, UFC chief Dana White confirmed that Oliveira will fight for the title in his next fight as he is the No. 1 contender for the vacant title. According to the AP, Dana White let go of his thoughts on the fight, saying: “It was what I expected, what we all expected. It was an incredible fight.”

What else happened at UFC 274?

In the co-main event of UFC 274, Carla Esparza defeated Rose Namajunas to win the women’s strawweight title after losing it eight years ago. At the same time, Michael Chandler also made headlines for brutally defeating Tony Ferguson in a lightweight fight. Chandler hit Ferguson in the face with a fatal kick in the second round of the fight.

Conor McGregor called UFC 274

In the post-match interviews in the octagon, both Oliveira and Chandler called out MMA superstar Conor McGregor for their next matches. While Oliveira said he would fight anyone from the squad, he also mentioned fighting McGregor. At the same time, Chandler said he was ready to pick up a welterweight fight against McGregor.
