Bolts win game 3 on buzzer


When time runs out and the pressure mounts, the Lightning have proven they can rise to the occasion. And with Game 3 tied at two in the final minute of regulation, they did just that.

out of the slit, Nikita Kutscherow served Ondrej Palat on the right wing, and he shot past Igor Shesterkin at the near post to lead Tampa Bay to a dramatic 3-2 win over the Rangers in Game 3 at the AMALIE Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Even when they found themselves in a tied game late in regulation, Tampa Bay had to do a belly check as they were forced to recover from a two-goal deficit after Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider both had power-play goals midway through the had scored in the second period.

Tampa Bay rode its own power play firepower to even the score, scoring goals from Kucherov and Steven Stamko to set the stage for Palat’s thrilling game winner.

The win puts the Bolts on the table in the Eastern Conference Finals, but the Rangers still lead 2-1 in Game 4 at the AMALIE Arena on Tuesday night.

When trying to reach for a Nikita Kutscherow centering feed on an onslaught of strange men, Riley Nash eventually crashed into Shesterkin, putting the Rangers right back on the power play. This time Zibanejad’s first shot was stopped by Vasilevskiy, but Chris Kreider was there in front of the net to score the rebound and double New York’s lead.

The third power play goal in a 3:13 span landed in the Rangers back net and set Tampa Bay on the scene. Nikita Kucherov unleashed a one-timer from the right faceoff spot that found an opening through Shesterkin’s five-hole.

3rd period

The Lightning provided the start they needed in the third and leveled the game to two with a powerplay one-timer from Steven Stamkos. From the nearby wall, Perry rebounded at a trailing Stamkos and shot the equalizer past Shesterkin.

Once again, there was last-minute magic for the Bolts. From the left point, Victor Hedman fed Kucherov into the slot. Away from the net, Kucherov sent a backhand pass to Ondrej Palat on the right wing, and his shot slipped past Shesterkin at the near post to win the game.
