Fil-American Engineer Gamaro competes in the 50th Annual World Open Chess Championship

MANILA—Filipino-American Donato Gamaro, an engineer and golfer from Queens, New York, will travel to Philadelphia hoping to improve his world rankings, besides bringing more honor to the country.
Affectionately known as Gerry in the chess world, he will be in action at the 50th Annual World Open Chess Championship in the Under 2000 category from June 29th to July 4th, 2022 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
“I’m hoping to do well at the 50th Annual World Open Chess Championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA,” said Gamaro, who is from Calauan, Laguna.
Recall that Gamaro awarded his class at the 14th Annual Foxwoods Open International Chess Championship on April 17th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino and Hotel in Connecticut, USA.
He reigned in the U1600 division with 6.5 points after defeating Karim Naba in the final round of the 7-round Swiss System tournament. With his performance in the regular game 60 minutes plus 10 second delay time control format, he received $2,325 for his efforts. Gamaro also won the Blitz side event for $100 more.
Gamaro is currently in rigorous training under the tutelage of his USA trainer/coach, National Master and Engineer Mario Lawsin Rebano.-Marlon Bernardino-
