Funko, one of pop culture’s leading brands that makes Funko Pop figures, board games and more, continues to expand into the gaming industry in a new collaboration with 10:10 Games, the company announced during San Diego Comic-Con.
Led by former Traveller’s Tales and TT Games founder Jon Burton, 10:10 will be working with Funko on a co-produced AAA action-platformer title that will be released in 2023, according to both partners.
This isn’t the first time that Funko has switched with games, has products based on video game IP and has worked with it before Microsoft on the now discontinued Gears Pop! Mobile title, but it’s the company’s first real market entry on the production side.
“Creating iconic products that connect fans emotionally to their favorite fandoms is critical to any product portfolio decision,” said Andrew Perlmutter, CEO of Funko.
“By partnering with 10:10 Games and utilizing the best developers in the industry, we have the talent to deliver games that reflect Funko’s unique imagery across its lines and diverse products.”
The untitled action-platformer is currently slated for a 2023 release for “current and next-gen consoles” alongside PC, likely meaning it will be cross-gen and release Xbox one, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
There will also be some kind of “big 3rd party studio integration”, which could mean that an existing IP is to be used as a basis in some way.
