FRISCO, TEXAS (July 28, 2022) — The National Soccer Hall of Fame at Toyota Stadium today released the names of all candidates for the 2023 election.

  • Attending a minimum of 20 full international games for the US men’s national team, women’s national team, or extended national teams (Paralympics, Beach & Futsal).

or

  • Played at least five seasons in an American First Division professional league and was named to a Postseason League All-Star team at least once.

Veteran Eligibility List

The Veterans Screening Committee will reduce the 89-person eligibility list to a 10-person final vote through the two-stage screening process.

Eligible Veterans include three finalists from last year’s Player’s Choice: Heather Mitts, Aly Wagner and Josh Wolff. Wilman Conde and Jeff Cunningham also appear on the Veteran Eligibility List for the first time in their 11th year since their retirement. Additionally, Bill McPherson was reinstated on the Veteran Eligibility List for 2023.

The 2022 Veteran Finalists returning to the eligibility list are Chris Armas, Chico Borja, Mary Harvey, Frankie Hejduk, Clint Mathis, Tony Sanneh, Kate Sobrero Markgraf and Tisha Venturini-High.

To be eligible for election as a veteran, an individual must have been retired for more than 10 full calendar years and either:

  • Attended at least 20 full international games for the US men’s national team, women’s national team, or extended national team (10 games prior to 1990 or five games prior to 1960).

or

  • Played at least five seasons in an American First Division professional league and was named to a Postseason League All-Star team at least once.

or

  • Played at least five seasons in the Major Indoor Soccer League between the end of NASL in 1984 and the end of MISL in 1992 and was selected as a first-team All-Star.

Builder Eligibility List and Builder Nominee List

The Builder Screening Committee will narrow the list of 23 trainers to a final four-person vote in a two-stage process.

To qualify for this category, an individual must have shaped football in a non-playing capacity and have had a large, lasting, and positive impact on football in the United States at the national or professional league level. Individuals on this list must be at least 50 years old or deceased and have at least 10 years of influence at the required level.

One person on the 2023 eligibility list, Clive Charles, appeared as a finalist in the 2021 Builder Vote, which considered all categories of builders, including umpires, coaches, owners and administrators. Due to the broad generality of the builder criteria, nominations are also considered.

The 2023 list includes two nominees; Cliff McCrath and Steve Negoesco received waivers to be considered during the screening process.
