ISTANBUL (AP) – Karim Benzema and Alexia Putellas were named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year on Thursday, winning Spanish clubs.
Benzema was the big favorite for the men’s award after scoring 15 Champions League goals to guide Real Madrid to a record-extending 14th European title.
Putellas was named UEFA’s best player for the second year in a row after helping Barcelona reach the Champions League final to defend their title. Barcelona lost to Lyon.
