knitting night: 6-8pm November 3rd, every first Thursday of the month. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Not just for knitters, but for all kinds of crafters!

International Game Day: 3:30pm Friday, Nov 4 & 18 Celebrate International Games Month at the Big Rapids Community Library by playing one of our new board games! Our Switch console will also be available at this time. From 8 years.

Classic Cinema: Thursday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. Join the Big Rapids Community Library and watch a classic movie in our community room. For title information, see the library’s website (www.bigrapidslibrary.org) under adult programming.

Dino Riffic Craft Day: Wednesday 23 November. Transform into a dinosaur in the library! This vehicle will be available all day on the ground floor.

Families Against Narcotics: 6 p.m. Tuesday 29 November. Your sanity is important. Families Against Narcotics presents Hope-Not Handcuffs with Ryan Reblin, Regional Director. Hope-Not Handcuffs is a program that is changing the way law enforcement treats people struggling with a substance abuse disorder. We will also learn about FAN’s services to individuals and families affected by a substance use disorder.

Go bananas! Introducing our newest literacy kit for kids ages 5-10. Each kit includes activities to build vowels and vocabulary using bananas. These kits will be available starting Tuesday, November 1st on a first come, first served basis. Note: There are no real bananas in the kits.

Next chapter, A Junior Book Box: Choose a book box based on a favorite book series, genre or author and find something new! Just stop at the lending desk and ask for it. Included in each box: two (or three) library books borrowed on your BRCL library card and some fun treats! New boxes will be available each month on a first come, first serve basis.

Scavenger Hunt, November: Dinosaurs have taken over the library and are playing hide and seek on the first floor! Will you be able to find them all? Stop by the lending desk throughout the month of November to pick up an activity sheet. When all the dinosaurs have been found, turn in your completed sheet for a treat!

Story Time with Mr. Howard: 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Join us for stories, movement, music and more in the BRCL Community Room. (There will be no story time on November 23.)

The library will be closed on Thursday November 24th and Friday November 25th.

Author John Wemlinger: 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1st. Local author John Wemlinger is a retired US Army Colonel with 27 years of active service. He is the author of five novels, in which he writes about what he knows best: America’s veterans and the problems they face. Four of his books have received awards, including his most recent novel, The Cut, which was named a Michigan Notable Book of 2022 by the State Library of Michigan. “History of Tigers Stadium: A Love Letter from Michigan Baseball and Trumbull:” Thursday, November 3, 4 p.m. Doc Fletcher will share stories from the book about the characters on the field, in the bleachers, and those in the neighborhoods around the ballpark, as well as the broadcasters that brought the action to us when we couldn’t be there ourselves. Story of Edmund Fitzgerald with Mike Fornes: Tuesday, November 8, 6 p.m. Hear the stories of the crew members and their families. Learn more about Gordon Lightfoot’s hit “The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald.” Hear the song performed live by Mike Fornes performing as Lightfoot Live In Concert.
